FAA extends AOPA's drug testing exemption for charity sightseeing flights

The FAA has granted a two-year extension on AOPA's blanket exemption from drug testing requirements for charity sightseeing flights. Under the exemption, AOPA members may take part in up to four charity fundraisers per calendar year by offering sightseeing flights without taking part in the FAA's random drug testing program as required by FAR 135.251, 135.255, and 135.353. A full explanation of the exemption's stipulations is available online. The aviation technical specialists who staff the AOPA Pilot Information Center (800/USA-AOPA or 800/872-2672) can answer any questions. AOPA members may use an online form to request coverage by the AOPA exemption.
