Holiday gifts of the canine kind

dogWe’re not sure the connection, but pilots seem to be dog people even more than, well, regular people are dog people. And just as dogs love to go in the car, they seem to cherish airplane rides too. And being such dog people, pilots need creative holiday gifts for Rover, and a couple of companies are happy to oblige.

One is Safe and Sound Pets, which has gained national attention with its Mutt Muffs hearing protectors for dogs. These goofy looking, but seemingly effective muffs strap on Fido’s head to protect his sensitive hearing in the airplane. The muffs retail for $52, although special colors cost extra. They come in five sizes. The site also contains other clever dog gift ideas, including the requisite “Co-Pilot” dog bandana. For a dog’s view of how the country should be run, don’t miss the “Dog President” video on the company’s Web site.

dog treatsWhile Muffy will surely appreciate the muffs long term when her hearing remains intact, she’ll likely show greater appreciation for the healthy, airplane-shaped dog biscuits from TwoDogNight. These aircraft are oatmeal-based and flavored with a touch of molasses to whet your pet’s sweet tooth. The biscuits are large—about 3.5 x 3.5 inches—and are made fresh daily with all-natural ingredients. They contain no preservatives. An order sells for $13.99 and includes about 20 large biscuits. Six additional dog biscuit flavors and loads of other eco- and fair-trade friendly dog products are also offered at the site. A percentage of every sale goes to hunger agencies worldwide.
