O RLANDO, F LORIDA—Unison Industries of Jacksonville, Florida, announced late yesterday at AOPA Expo that it has received FAA-PMA approval for the installation of the LASAR electronic ignition system on Textron-Lycoming 540-series six-cylinder engines. So far, 87 airframes powered by the -540 have been approved for the installation. LASAR monitors engine manifold pressure and rpm and automatically adjusts magneto timing for optimum efficiency and power. The $2,500 LASAR system will soon be approved to work with an electronic mixture control system that will be jointly manufactured and marketed by Unison and Precision Airmotive ( see related story).
