Two of the nation's largest aviation associations, AOPA and the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), will be collaborating on issues and programs that protect, support, and grow general aviation.
"This is a logical collaboration that makes sense for the greater good of general aviation," AOPA President Craig Fuller said. "Each of our associations has been an effective advocate for GA. But now I look forward to EAA and AOPA working more closely together at all levels to protect and grow general aviation, and to keep it safe."
AOPA and EAA leaders identified a significant number of near-term opportunities for collaboration. In addition, the organizations agreed to jointly host a roundtable in early 2010 that would include a wide spectrum of the GA community.
"What evolved during the meeting was the mutual respect for the strengths of each organization, which will be used in ways that are mutually beneficial, and address aviation growth and preservation," EAA President Tom Poberezny said. "The majority of our nation's pilots belong to one or both of these organizations, so our members expect us to utilize these strengths in a way that addresses the long-term vitality of general aviation."
Don't miss out on AOPA's first-ever Aviation Summit, November 5 through 7 in Tampa, Florida. Aviation Summit represents an evolution of AOPA Expo, offering new events, opportunities, groundbreaking policy discussions where you can voice your opinions, and social gatherings, in addition to everything you've come to expect from an AOPA event. Balloons to jets, safety seminars to today's coolest aviation technology, gear, and destinations - get your hands on everything you've ever thought about learning, trying, or buying. Plus, with so many opportunities to talk with friends and make new ones, some "hangar talk" where you can pick up exciting tips and ideas from your fellow pilots is guaranteed. Be part of the camaraderie, share your aviation experiences, and enjoy all that Summit has to offer. To find out more about Summit, visit AOPA Online.
Play it safe - have a card or two up your sleeve. Seriously, professional pilots often use aircraft-specific flash cards to review systems and procedures anytime, anywhere. If it's good enough for the pros, then why not you?
Enter the recently updated Aircraft Flash Cards from the AOPA Air Safety Foundation. These cards are a clever way to quickly review items found in the pilot's operating handbook and other relevant documentation. For example, how many fuel drains must you sump during preflight and where are they located? Could you point out and name each antenna if an inquiring mind wants to know? Here's your chance to effortlessly recite emergency procedures, boldly rattle off the V-speeds, and nonchalantly mention the electrical system specifications.
Of course, you first have to glean and copy that information from the POH. But once done, this useful information is at your fingertips at home and work, in the hangar, and in the cockpit.
So what are you waiting for? Download this handy aircraft flash card deck and sit down with your aircraft's POH to fill in the blanks.
