AOPA is inviting Mid-Atlantic pilots to the AOPA ramp at Frederick Municipal Airport in Frederick, Md., for two events—with two Remos GX aircraft--on April 10. Meet up with Michael Combs for the Flight for the Human Spirit at 9 a.m., and at 10 a.m. get ready to see off your Fun to Fly Sweepstakes Remos and the wrapped Smart car for the Road and Runway Rally, heading down the East Coast to end at Sun ‘n Fun.
It’s never too late
Fifty states in 40 flight days, crossing 19,400 miles of the country—in a Remos GX. This is the dream of Michael Combs.
Combs was an ordinary guy, until complications of an irregular heartbeat nearly took his life. As a result, he couldn’t get the proper medical certificate, and his lifelong dream of learning to fly was shattered.
However, a new type of aircraft and flying rules were created: light sport aircraft and sport pilot. With certain limitations, Combs could resume his dream of learning to fly in a new light sport aircraft.
Combs’ inspirational presentation will begin shortly after 9 a.m. For more information, go to his Flight for the Human Spirit Web page.
AOPA’s trek to spring break
It’s an annual pilgrimage for aviators and pilots. Once the clouds of winter break, and the sun starts to warm the ground and the air, all airways point to Lakeland. Help bring a bit of Sun ’n Fun to Frederick April 10. The festivities start at 10 a.m., with a meet-and-greet with our two Road and Runway Rally teams, morning refreshments, and the chance to wave your Fun to Fly Sweepstakes Remos off to Florida.
AOPA plans to make stops along the way to interact with pilots and aviation enthusiasts. There will be stops in Williamsburg, Va.; Wilmington, N.C.; Dillon, S.C.; and St. Augustine, Fla., before AOPA opens the show at Lakeland on April 13.
For more information on the rally, and to follow the progress of the Smart car and Remos, see the rally page.
During both events, AOPA headquarters will not be open.
