Avidyne has landed its first new aircraft manufacturer to offer its innovative Release 9 avionics suite as standard equipment. Extra Aircraft, a German manufacturer best known for world-class aerobatic aircraft, will offer Avidyne’s R9 system in its EA-500, a single-engine turboprop meant for business transportation.
Avidyne also is developing a series of new products designed for the retrofit market. The company’s EX600 MFD has a 5.8-inch (diagonal) display that can show terrain, weather, and traffic. Its DFC90 and DFC100 digital autopilots tie into existing Avidyne ADAHRS systems and are meant as slide-in replacements for S-Tec System 55X autopilots that come standard in Cirrus and other aircraft frequently fitted with Avidyne PFDs and MFDs.
The digital autopilots are designed to avoid inadvertent stalls while autopilots are controlling the aircraft, and they have a “straight and level” button as standard equipment.
