Unite for GA at Sun 'n Fun

Sun ’n Fun is celebrated as the first great fly-in of the year for pilots, and it’s also a place where the aviation community can join together for a cause: protecting general aviation.

In recent years, AOPA’s Big Yellow Tent has been the focal point for pilots to join the association’s efforts to protect GA. In 2007, thousands of pilots signed AOPA’s petition against user fees. User fees are off the table right now, with House and Senate long-term FAA funding bills that do not include the fees. But, as AOPA President Craig Fuller is quick to point out, that doesn’t mean the GA community can sit back and relax.

To that end, AOPA is encouraging all pilots to get engaged in aviation, from writing to their elected officials to taking someone flying for the first time. This year at Sun ’n Fun, stop by AOPA’s Big Yellow Tent to share what you are doing to engage in protecting aviation. While you enter for a chance to win daily drawings at kiosks in the tent, you will be able pledge how you plan to engage in aviation this year.

Need some ideas? Learn how to get involved during Fuller’s talk at the AOPA Pavilion on Thursday, April 15, at 6:30 p.m. And take a look at AOPA’s “Engage” Web section to find out how to get connected in the community, speak up for GA, take someone flying, or make a donation to support AOPA’s efforts.
