High energy—it’s synonymous with aerobatic flight and, in this hip-hop age, a type of beverage. What the two have in common could be the salvation of general aviation. Red Bull, the drink, appeals to the young and daring; Red Bull, the air race, appeals to the daring at every age. This combination is introducing the joy and excitement of aviation to a generation born in the jet age, who know little about flying in “little” airplanes, a generation without the lessons and adventures of World War II. As we face the challenge of a declining pilot population, could an energy drink be our hope for the future?
