Women in Aviation, International (WAI) will take Walt Disney World by storm this February.
The Disney Coronado Springs Resort will host the Twenty-First Women in Aviation Conference this Feb. 25 through 27. The event’s theme is Aviation—It’s a Small World.
The WAI conference promises to immerse aviators and aviation enthusiasts in the tactics and strategies to be successful in an aviation hobby and career. Full registration includes access to the opening reception, luncheon, and final banquet at the end of the show.
There are more than 120 exhibitors at the event, from aviator accessories to government agencies; each with helpful tips, tricks, and knowledge.
Also available onsite are numerous educational sessions. Their topics include women in the military, new technologies in aviation, outreach efforts in aviation, and aviation engineering.
For those interested in jobs in the aviation field, WAI will hold a virtual career fair from Feb. 22 to March 21. This online event is free of charge to job seekers.
WAI has confirmed that 71 scholarships totaling $454,000 will be awarded to students; one lucky corporate member of WAI (a university or college, museum, or training center) will receive a Boeing 727 from FedEx.
The show also expects seven different aviation authors to attend. Their literature has covered everything from the life of Amelia Earhart to letters from Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) to children’s books. Each author will have her own meet-and-greet time for autographs and questions.
Last year AOPA wowed you at the conference with the unveiling of the 2008 Get Your Glass Archer to Karoline Amodeo.
While we can’t top that, AOPA will have an expanded presence at this year’s show. Expect to see a larger, expanded presence all three days in sunny Coronado Springs Resort. During the Friday luncheon, AOPA Foundation President Karen Gebhart and other general aviation powerhouses will provide insights about the future of general aviation; AOPA will promote the Fun to Fly Remos GX light sport aircraft and announce the winner of a new $3,000 scholarship for flight training.
The AOPA Air Safety Foundation will also be on site with its “What Went Wrong” presentation (Feb. 25, 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., Fiesta V ballroom), where the audience plays investigator to several different accidents to determine probable cause. This safety seminar is open and free to the public.
Register now to join the fun and events at the Women in Aviation Conference. Military and children discounts are available; the WAI conference is approved as training for FAA employees. Special extended-hours Walt Disney World passes are available for convention attendees and guests.
