NASCAR team owner and aviation enthusiast Jack Roush was transferred to Mayo Clinic July 28 evening after a landing accident at EAA AirVenture the day before, according to a report on the Roush Fenway Racing website.
Roush remained in serious but stable condition Wednesday after sustaining serious injuries in an accident on Runway 18 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wis., July 27. He was landing his Hawker Beechcraft Premier jet when the accident occurred, according to a team report. Also on board the aircraft was Brenda Strickland of Plymouth, Mich. Both walked away from the crash; Strickland had non-life-threatening injuries, according to an EAA statement.
Roush, an avid pilot, owns Roush Fenway Racing, which operates eight teams. His fleet of aircraft includes airplanes from P-51s to Boeing 727-200s, and he was featured in a 2009 AOPA Pilot article. The co-owner of Roush Fenway Racing and chairman of ROUSH Enterprises had surgery July 27 related to the facial damage sustained in the accident, the team reported. He will continue to be treated at Mayo Clinic for his facial injuries.
“Once again, we would also like to thank everyone for the outpouring of support and well wishes,” the team said in an update.
