300-hp Waco approved

Waco Waco Classic Aircraft Corp., located in Battle Creek, Mich., has won FAA approval for its 300-horsepower Waco YMF 5-D model, a 25 hp boost over the previous model. The price for the more powerful model stays the same as the 275-hp model: $395,500 for a VFR model, and $423,245 for an IFR model.

The engine used is the Jacobs R755A2. It has a 1,400-hour longer time between overhaul, and a 50-hour oil change interval. While the 300-hp engine adds little speed, 120 mph vs. 115 mph for the 275-hp model, it greatly improves climb performance.

The aircraft uses an MT elliptical tip propeller made especially for Waco Classic. Normally, MT propellers are composite, but the new one is all wood. Both models have JPI electronic engine analyzers, and the IFR model has a Garmin glass panel instrument package.
