Scanning for traffic

Keep your head on a swivel

Face it, you’re afraid. You’re afraid to hit another airplane. Everyone thinks it at one point or another, which is why we practice collision avoidance. During daylight hours, the trick is to divide the sky into manageable chunks of space, generally about 10 degrees each. Spend a few seconds in each segment of sky and you’ll have a better chance of finding those bogies.
