Planning a career in aviation? Plan to come to Summit

Looking to fly for a living? AOPA Aviation Summit 2010 in Long Beach, Calif., Nov. 11 through 13 has opportunities you won't want to miss.

Make sure to attend the Nov. 13 forum, "Flying for a Living: Strategies for Getting Hired." The forum will feature a panel discussion with an airline pilot, a regional jet training expert, and a career counselor and résumé expert. Brush up your resume and bring it, together with your questions, to the Flight Training booth between 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. Nov. 13, for free counseling with Judy Tarver, vice president of fltops.com and a former human resources executive with American Airlines.

Keynote events will look to the future of the industry. On Nov. 13, formal naval aviator John Petersen will focus on major general aviation trends that are driving propulsion, fuel and power, materials, avionics, air traffic control, and demographic and environmental concerns, all of which are converging to shape the future of our industry in "GA in 2020.” The "The Future of Flight" keynote on Nov. 12 will provide a glimpse of the flight experience yet to come. Representatives from Virgin Galactic, Icon Aircraft, and Terrafugia will be the featured speakers.

Other events for future career pilots include "NextGen: What Does It Mean to Me?" presented by AOPA's government affairs team, "Thinking Small to Avoid Big Mistakes," and Yodice Associates' "What Every Pilot Should Know About FAA Enforcement.”

Join AOPA, fellow and future pilots each day at the show. What better chance to pick up real-time information on all aspects of aviation? — Mitch Mitchell
