Rock the airport: Flying Musicians perform at Long Beach

The thousands of visitors to AOPA Aviation Summit’s Airportfest at Long Beach/Daugherty Field will be treated not only to the sweet sounds of turbine, jet, and propeller-driven aircraft, but also the strains of jazz, folk, and other musical genres when members of the Flying Musicians Association take the stage.

Musicians will be performing daily at Airportfest.

Among the artists set to appear are Ravi, a sport pilot and guitar player who toured with Hansen and has written for Flight Training magazine; Suzanne Brindamour, composer and performer of the soundtrack for the documentary Barnstorming; and Bradley Leighton, one of the world’s premier jazz flutists.

A complete schedule of performances is available on the Flying Musicians Association website. The musical performances and other activities at Airportfest are free and open to the public.

The musicians will perform at the Airportfest stage at 11 a.m. and noon daily. The stage is sponsored by Sennheiser. The Flying Musicians Association is a nonprofit organization whose goal is to educate youth in the science and art of aeronautics and music. —Jill W. Tallman
