One of the highlights of the AOPA Foundation’s first ever A Night for Flight fundraising dinner at Aviation Summit was a presentation by Lightspeed Aviation Foundation President Allan Schrader. Schrader explained that pilots who purchase a headset from Lightspeed Aviation can designate a portion of their purchase be directed to a charitable aviation organization. Many pilots over the last year who have purchased Lightspeed headsets designated the AOPA Foundation as the recipient. At the dinner, Schrader presented a check to AOPA Foundation President Bruce Landsberg in the amount of $10,000. "We are most grateful for the support from one of the leaders in the industry as the AOPA Foundation moves forward in ensuring the future of general aviation," said Landsberg.
The newly founded Lightspeed Aviation Foundation also presented $10,000 awards to five charitable aviation organizations voted on by pilots at the foundation’s website. Schrader presented the awards during a segment on AOPA Live. The organizations included Angel Flight Southeast/Mercy Flight Southeast; the Civil Air Patrol; JAARS; Mission Aviation Fellowship; and The Ninety-Nines.
