Following up on its success retrofitting CitationJets and 90- and 200-series King Airs, Garmin reveals that yet another program will offer G1000 retrofits to the King Air 300 and 350. A supplemental type certificate (STC) will allow the new retrofit installations to begin in mid-2011, Garmin says.
The retrofit includes two 10.4-inch diameter primary flight displays and a 15-inch multifunction display. The list of standard and optional add-ons is vast and includes Garmin’s electronic stability and protection (ESP) system; synthetic vision; a Class-A TAWS (Terrain Awareness and Warning) with worldwide terrain and obstacle database; Wi-Fi datalink; airborne weather radar; dual attitude and heading reference systems (AHRS); and Garmin’s GFC 700 automatic flight control system.
Garmin claims a weight savings of more than 200 pounds when the G1000 replaces the standard King Air avionics.
“We have received a tremendous response to our G1000 retrofit programs,” said Gary Kelley, Garmin’s vice president of marketing. “By installing a G1000 retrofit flight deck, customers are able to completely revitalize their aircraft with state-of-the-art avionics capabilities and features that make flying safer.”
