Gulfstream cabins have always been large and luxurious, but the company’s new G650s will come with a wide range of extra enhancements not previously available. New, electrically-adjustable seats lead the list of features, which also includes an enlargement of the airplane’s 16 cabin windows—which will measure 28 inches across. The windows have also been raised 3.4 inches for optimum viewing by seated passengers.
Electrical adjustment isn’t the only seating news. Two of the cabin’s standard seats will also come with heated back and base cushions, four-way pan tilt, back cushion massage, single-position memory preset, and press-and-hold controls for full upright and full-flat positions. Armrests can be used for storage or an optional 12.1 inch high-definition personal monitor. Sidewall ledges contain covered docking stations for a passenger control unit and a wireless phone. There’s also an easy-to-berth divan that converts to an 80-by-41-inch flat surface.Gulfstream designed the cabin systems—water, waste, communication, lighting, power, cabin control, and entertainment—to ensure that no one single-point failure will result in a loss of cabin functionality. This philosophy, know as Cabin Essential, applies to every aspect of the cabin. This includes the Gulfstream Cabin Management System (GCMS), which provides digital control of cabin systems via touch screens.
Other features of the new cabin include electrically-operated pocket doors and console tables, a credenza that contains a three-in-one printer/scanner/fax machine, and a crew rest area with a 17-inch monitor and 80 inches of berthing surface.
