Mojave airport event to feature AOPA’s Barry Schiff

  'AOPA Pilot' contributor Barry Schiff

AOPA Pilot contributor Barry Schiff will be the guest of honor at the Mojave, Calif., Transportation Museum’s Plane Crazy Saturday event on Jan. 15.

Schiff, a 27,000-hour pilot whose airline career spanned 34 years flying aircraft from the Lockheed Constellation to the Boeing 747, will appear as the event’s Pilot of the Month at the Mojave Air and Space Port.

Schiff, who holds five world speed records and numerous honors for his contributions to aviation safety, will meet aviation enthusiasts and share his experiences flying more than 321 types of aircraft and working as an educator, advocate, and international aviation diplomat. In 1995 he participated in the Middle East peace process with Operation Peace Flight, leading a formation of aircraft carrying 135 Americans, Israelis, and Jordanians from Jerusalem to Amman, with the direct approval of King Hussein of Jordan and Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin.

Plane Crazy Saturday is a monthly event organized by the Mojave Transportation Museum Foundation. Families, and especially kids, are welcome and encouraged to attend. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with aviation and space collectibles, and artwork available for sale and viewing. Entrance to the event is through the Voyager Restaurant.
