SimCom upgrades Eclipse simulators

SimCom Training Centers announced that its Orlando training facility will modify one of its two Eclipse 500 simulators by this fall. The upgrade will add the Avio Integrated Flight Management System (IFMS), making the simulator correspond with the latest avionics suite available in the Eclipse.

The Avio IFMS includes a moving-map display, along with XM WX weather integration, electronic charts, flight plan overlays, and WAAS precision approach capability that lets students fly LPV (localizer performance with vertical guidance) approaches.

SimCom is further adjusting its Eclipse training options by offering an optional, advanced Eclipse initial type rating course for more experienced pilots who already have turbine and high-altitude flying experience. This advanced course is nine days long—down from the standard course duration of 14 days. However, the total hours spent in the simulator are the same as in the 14-day course. SimCom says the training will be condensed and administered using a more intensive format.

“Taking advantage of our experience, we have been able to achieve these major training course improvements for Eclipse pilots,” said Wally David, SimCom’s president and chief operating officer. “The upgraded avionics and the shortened course improve and simplify the process for pilots seeking Eclipse 500 initial or recurrent training.”

SimCom is the exclusive factory-authorized training provider for the Eclipse EA500, the Pilatus PC-12, DAHER-SOCATA’s TBMs, the Mitsubishi MU-2, and Piper’s Meridian, Mirage, Malibu, Matrix, Seneca, and Saratoga airplanes.
