Evolution and Avidyne DFC90: DFC90 uses Aspen's superior, solid-state digital AHRS solution as attitude source while the DFC90 modes and fly-to references will be shown on the EFD1000; available Q4, 2011.
Until now, the attitude-based DFC90 autopilots would only operate in Avidyne Entegra glass-cockpit avionics suites. The DFC90 has a “Straight & Level” feature that is capable of recovering from extreme unusual attitudes, and it gives aural and visual warnings of excessively high or low airspeeds and bank angles—even when the autopilot isn’t engaged.
The DFC90 has been a popular retrofit in Avidyne Entegra-equipped aircraft since it was introduced last year—and the combination with Aspen enlarges the pool of aircraft that potentially use the Avidyne autopilot.
The EFD1000 will display DFC90 modes, and the combinations are expected to be available to customers in the fourth quarter of this year.
