One thing that worries any pilot is the loss of his or her logbook. Be it destroyed or simply stolen, maybe out of a vehicle, that logbook is just about the most important book that a pilot—in particular a professional pilot—can have. All those entries and logged times, gone! Ask any pilot who has lost one.
Now a new way has surfaced to help retain a copy of your logbook. A digital camera can be used to take a photo of two pages of a well-lit logbook at the same time. When printed up on a postcard-sized print, the entries are easy to see if the logbook has to be reproduced, as in the event of the logbook being destroyed or stolen.
A pilot can take a regular digital photograph copy of the pages of his logbook and keep the storage device in a safe place. It’s easier than using a photocopier and there are no bulky pages to keep. If need be, the memory card can be used to reproduce these pages. It is very easy to photograph the pages with a digital camera and retain the chip. The copies can be checked for sharpness and coverage at the end of a photo session. Technology to the rescue.
