Professional Instrument Courses (PIC), originators of the 10-day instrument-rating course provided at the client’s location for the last 30 years, has added Redbird G1000 TD2 and Elite PI-135 simulators to its training fleet.
“Any professional training program uses simulators with their clients,” said PIC Program Director Thomas Seymour. “We’ve found that the G1000 and Garmin 430 simulation of the Redbird and Elite units to be very effective training tools.”
Working on “knobology” in the simulator lends focus and efficiency to training, speeding the pilot’s learning. Then the pilot can perfect the techniques in flight in the airplane, he said.
Many trainees already have some familiarity with the systems, and are ready to add the IFR component. “We’re usually taking someone from VFR proficiency on it to IFR proficiency on it,” he said.
PIC also offers three-day refresher courses for instrument-rated pilots who want to do more work on specific elements of instrument flight, or who find it difficult to maintain recency of experience, Seymour added.
