AOPA Aviation Summit 2011, general aviation’s premier event, will take place in Hartford, Connecticut, from September 22 through 24 at the Connecticut Convention Center and at Hartford-Brainard Airport, the location of this year’s Airportfest.
Enjoy hundreds of exhibits; attend keynote addresses, AOPA Live, and product demonstrations; and interact with fellow members all within the exhibit hall. The cornerstone of the event is a program of new and vibrant speakers, including the FAA administrator, and a new seminar schedule. With more than 60 hours of educational seminars to select from, you’ll find what you are looking for, whether you wish to refresh your pilot skills or are considering taking that first step to earning your certificate.
Visit the AOPA Member Pavilion to learn more about membership, financial, insurance, and pilot services. Stop by and say hello; you could walk away with great prizes, including an Apple iPad.
We’ve also got a number of member-only discounts available to you when booking your trip to Hartford. And don’t forget, all of our member products support AOPA by generating revenue, which is reinvested to fund our advocacy efforts to maintain the freedom, safety, and affordability of general aviation. So come on by and show your support—we look forward to seeing you in Hartford. Visit us online to learn more.

Whether a pilot realizes it or not, it’s the PIC who is responsible for determining that the aircraft is, in fact, airworthy. So, what exactly is airworthiness? Although the term is not specifically defined in the FARs, its meaning is deduced from FAA interpretation and NTSB decisions. Generally speaking, it involves determining whether the aircraft conforms to its type certificate and applicable airworthiness directives, and whether it is in condition for safe operation. Read what the regulations do say about airworthiness in this month’s Answers for Pilots. And, as always, call AOPA with questions Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern time, at 800-USA-AOPA (872-2672).
