Answers for Pilots: Aircraft airworthiness

Whether a pilot realizes it or not, it’s the PIC who is responsible for determining that the aircraft is, in fact, airworthy. So, what exactly is airworthiness? Although the term is not specifically defined in the FARs, its meaning is deduced from FAA interpretation and NTSB decisions. Generally speaking, it involves determining whether the aircraft conforms to its type certificate and applicable airworthiness directives, and whether it is in condition for safe operation.
