The FAA is reminding airframe and powerplant mechanics that all paper certificates will expire on March 31, 2013.
A&P certificate holders and all other certificated airmen who have not replaced their paper certificates with plastic certificates on or before the expiration date will be unable to exercise their privileges, said the FAA Safety Team in an email notification.
To receive a replacement certificate, follow the online instructions provided on the FAA’s website. Replacement cost is $2, unless your old certificate still contains your Social Security number, which you can request to have removed at no charge.
Paper pilot certificates expired on March 31, 2010, under an expiration schedule set in a 2008 initiative to replace paper certificates with plastic certificates that are considered to be more resistant to counterfeiting.
