Proof-of-insurance cards tucked in glove boxes in vehicles across the country contain key information that drivers can use in the event of an accident: Aside from the policy number, they also include contact information and a handy checklist to follow after an accident.
Most cockpits are likely lacking similar insurance information. Starr Aviation, a division of Starr Indemnity & Liability Company, announced its iPhone app March 30 at Sun ‘n Fun to make that information available at a pilot’s fingertips.
The free app, available to Starr Aviation customers and non-customers alike, lets users locate a Starr Aviation agent and includes an after-the-accident checklist. Customers can view and email their policy, submit a claim, access discounts, and contact their agent or a Starr Aviation office. For those who prefer to call, contact information is included on the home page. Pilots can take images of the accident and damage to send with the claim. The app also includes links to the NTSB and NASA Aviation Safety Reporting System.
