More time allowed for comments on Navy training plan

The Navy has extended to Dec. 6 the public comment period on the draft environmental impact statement that would change how it uses the Naval Weapons Systems Training Facility near Boardman, Ore., and related airspace.

AOPA has submitted formal comments on the DEIS, urging the Navy to relinquish to the National Airspace System any special-use airspace no longer considered suitable for training purposes. AOPA also urged that the Navy accompany any new request for new special-use airspace with the return of airspace where training will be discontinued.

Members are encouraged to review the DEIS and submit comments by Dec. 6 at the project website or by mail to Naval Facilities Engineering Command Northwest, 1101 Tautog Circle, Suite 203, Silverdale WA 98315-1101, Attn: NWSTF Boardman Project Manager. Please share your comments with AOPA.
