Jeff Stephenson was one of the first winners of AOPA’s flight training scholarship. He received the $5,000 award in the fall of 2011, and passed his checkride less than a year later. As a public school teacher, Stephenson has made it part of his purpose in aviation to expose more young people to flight. One of his first passengers was part of the Young Eagles program.—Ed.
“I just wanted to let you know that I passed my private pilot checkride earlier today. I am now a licensed private pilot! I am sure that it was not the greatest checkride ever taken, but I did well enough to pass. The examiner was impressed with my oral, but hot, bumpy weather caused a few flight issues.
