More than 50 Airport Support Network volunteers joined AOPA staff at the annual breakfast at the Sun ’n Fun International Fly-In & Expo recognizing the volunteer efforts at local airports. ASN—established in 1997—has grown to represent more than half of the public-use airports across the country.
Recently the state of Virginia has reached the incredible milestone of ASN representation at 100 percent of the public-use airports in the state.
ASN volunteers are the eyes and ears of the association, communicating the needs of local airports through representation and front-line activities.
ASN Director Joey Colleran was joined at the event by members of the government affairs staff, including AOPA Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Melissa Rudinger, Vice President of Airports Bill Dunn, Regional Representative Bob Minter, and others, all of whom welcomed comments from the attendees.
Adam Smith, AOPA vice president of the Center to Advance the Pilot Community, also addressed the group, inviting ASN volunteers to consider establishing flying clubs at their local airports. He also encouraged involvement saying, “AOPA has the big megaphone; we want to help you get the word out” about the work of ASN volunteers at their airports.
“Thank you for all you do,” said AOPA President Craig Fuller. “Keep up the work, keep up the fight—and we will too.”
