AOPA Insurance Services representatives have played instrumental roles in EAA AirVenture 2013 panels, offering advice on insurance protection for pilots and aircraft owners and covering topics that include the right level of aircraft coverage and risk management for aircraft.
On Aug. 3, AOPA Insurance expert Cher Clare will offer “A Crash Course in Protecting Your Plane.” Clare noted that “sometimes the only thing harder than choosing the right aircraft insurance is understanding that insurance.
“Between exclusions, deductible, limits and underwriters there’s a jungle of jargon,” Clare said. “We want to sort through all that for aircraft owners and operators with a forum that make things easy to understand. We want people to know the coverage they have and what they should have.”
The insurance forum will take place Aug. 3 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at AirVenture Forum Pavilion 10 Poly-Fiber.
On Tuesday, AOPA Insurance expert James Oliphant spoke to the Mooney Caravan Panel about risk management and other common issues that pilots face, including operations at AirVenture. Oliphant joined a panel of pilots who each flew into Oshkosh, Wis., for the Experimental Aircraft Association’s annual expo.
AOPA Insurance representatives can also answer questions throughout AirVenture at the AOPA tent, next to the Rockwell Collins hangar on James Ray Blvd.
AOPA Insurance Services named insurance veteran Bill Snead as its new president in July. Snead is a pilot who has 36 years of aviation insurance experience as a broker, agent, and underwriter, with significant experience with commercial aviation clients and with experimental, light sport, antique, and warbird aircraft.
Snead holds a commercial pilot certificate and served in the U.S. Air Force as a crew chief. He has a Bachelor of Science degree from Virginia Commonwealth University.
Snead assumes his post as AOPA Insurance Services is celebrating its twentieth anniversary this year. From its headquarters in Wichita, Kan., AOPA Insurance has grown from a six-employee company with a single policy on a Cessna 172 to become the nation’s largest light aircraft insurer, offering a variety of innovative programs for pilots, including special insurance coverage for flying clubs and an accident forgiveness program.
In addition to providing financial support for AOPA’s mission, AOPA Insurance Services has donated $1.8 million to the AOPA Foundation since 2009 to help safeguard the future of general aviation.
