The FAA Safety Team has issued a notice advising pilots of taxiway and runway re-designations that have begun to take effect at Chicago (Ill.) O’Hare International Airport.
New taxiway designators that went into effect Jan. 10 mark the first step in an overall renaming program for taxiways that will be phased in over 18 months under the airport’s modernization plan. Every 56 days, a group of taxiways will be re-designated, the FAA said.
As of Jan. 10, the following taxiway changes took effect:
Taxiway ZC was re-designated AA.
Taxiway ZD was re-designated L1.
Taxiway ZE was re-designated BB.
Taxiway ZF was re-designated CC.
The next series of taxiway re-designations are scheduled for March 7, May 2, Aug. 22, Oct. 17, and Dec. 12.
Runway designation changes will occur as follows:
Runway 10-28 will be re-designated 10L-28R on May 2, 2013.
Runway 10C-28C will be commissioned Oct. 17, 2013.
Runway 10R-28L will be commissioned Oct. 15, 2015.
Pilots can review airport maps and check airport construction information online. The FAA urged all pilots to check and update notices to airmen frequently.
