Although there are few major changes to the proposed design of the Dallas/Fort Worth Class B airspace area, AOPA remains concerned with the proposed lowering of the Class B floor in several areas and the extension to the north and urges pilots to weigh in.
The FAA’s notice of proposed rulemaking, released Jan. 22, proposes to lower the Class B floor in several sectors. AOPA will submit comments to the FAA expressing concern over the potential safety compromise of compressing general aviation traffic attempting to transition those areas. This is most concerning over Addison Airport, where lowering the Class B floor would largely reduce the vertical area in which aircraft are left to maneuver.
In November 2008, AOPA submitted comments as a result of public meetings over Class B airspace ideas, and some of those recommendations were adopted by the FAA. But there are still several areas of concern, including lowering the Class B floors in several areas and extending the Class B airspace area in the north.
AOPA encourages members affected by this redesign to make their voices heard by submitting comments by the March 25, 2013, deadline.
