Aspen to offer wireless panel connection with CG50

Aspen Avionics is currently working on a new means of bringing ADS-B weather information to its Evolution primary flight displays and multifunction displays, as well as Apple iPads. Aspen’s new, two-ounce CG50 will mount behind the instrument panel and serve as a wireless hotspot for sending ADS-B weather information from popular portable, glareshield-mountable ADS-B receivers. With the CG50 in action, Nexrad weather radar returns will appear superimposed on the Aspen’s horizontal situation indicator display and/or multifunction display. Together with the displayed flight-planned route and nearby navaids and other fixes, the pilot will gain valuable situational awareness at a reasonable price. The unit is currently priced at $949 and should be available beginning in the first quarter of 2014, Aspen said.
