AOPA Live to stream women in space presentations

AOPA Live will stream presentations honoring 50 years of women in space during the Women Fly it Forward event at Frederick Municipal Airport in Frederick, Md., on March 9.

Among the presenters will be NASA space scientist Dr. Mamta Patel Nagaraja; retired Air Force combat pilot, test pilot, and astronaut Pam Melroy; and robotic operator and aerospace engineer Natalie Panek.

"I am glad that AOPA will be loaning their time to broadcast our special guest presenters this Saturday,” said event organizer Victoria Zajko. “With their help, girls and women at Women of Aviation Week events around the globe will be inspired to enter the aviation and aerospace industry by our panel of special guests.”

In addition to the presentations, the coverage will include footage of the event and a live interview with AOPA’s newest private pilot recounting her flight training journey.

Women Fly it Forward 2013 is part of the third annual Women of Aviation Worldwide Week and is an outreach effort by the Institute for Women of Aviation Worldwide, offering free flights to women who have never been in a general aviation aircraft. It is celebrated during the week when the first woman pilot, Raymond de Laroche, earned her pilot certificate. This year’s theme is inspired by the accomplishments of Valentina Tereshkova, the first woman to travel to space.

Live streaming will begin at 9 a.m. Eastern on March 9.
