AOPA is evaluating the potential impact of an FAA proposal to modify V-345 in the vicinity of Ashland, Wis., and encourages members to provide input on how the plan would affect their flight operations. Formal comments may be submitted to the FAA by May 10.
According to the FAA’s notice of proposed rulemaking, the agency proposes to remove the portion of V-345 affected by the loss of service of the Ashland, Wis., VOR/DME, which has been out of service for 10 months, with a notam published about the outage. The navaid, which marks the northernmost point of the airway, is scheduled to be decommissioned in 2013.
With drastic FAA budget cuts now taking effect under sequestration, AOPA urges pilots to check notams frequently for information about navaid shutdowns, deferred maintenance, and airway modifications. AOPA will advise members of proposals such as the one affecting the Ashland VOR/DME when they are published by the FAA.
