The FAA has issued its final rule eliminating a segment of Victor airway V595 in Oregon in connection with the planned decommissioning of the Portland VOR/DME effective June 27.
By separate rulemaking action, the FAA proposed to establish new area navigation routes (T-routes) “to provide additional navigation options in the affected area.”
AOPA solicited input from pilots and submitted formal comments on the airway amendment, which the FAA revised during the review process after it was determined that high terrain rendered the service volume of a navaid inadequate to define a portion of the airway.
In the airway’s final configuration, the segment of V595 between the Deschutes Vortac and the Portland VOR/DME is to be removed. As amended, V595 will extend between the Rogue Valley, Ore., Vortac and the Deschutes Vortac.
AOPA supports the FAA’s solution for mitigating the loss of the airway segment by establishing T-routes and encourages the agency to take prompt action on the remedy. The association will notify members when the FAA publishes its notice of proposed rulemaking for the replacement T-routes.
