Air Force changes dates, times for Wisconsin training exercise

The U.S. Air Force has changed the dates it requested to establish a temporary military operations area (TMOA) in central Wisconsin for its training exercise Northern Lightning. The original request was for Aug. 19 through 30, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Central Daylight Time.

The Air Force now wants to conduct its training exercise Aug. 6 through 16, Monday through Friday from 8:30 to 11 a.m. and 12:30 to 3 p.m. Central Daylight Time, with other times by notam with four hours’ advanced notice.

When the Air Force made its original request, AOPA reviewed the proposal and determined the training exercise would not have any significant impact on general aviation operations. But AOPA advises pilots to familiarize themselves with the TMOA boundaries and check notams carefully during the proposed time period.
