Hawaii seeks airport rules input

Pilots asked to weigh in

Pilots in Hawaii, including those cited last year for storing nonaviation items in airport hangars  now have an opportunity to help shape revised rules.

The General Aviation Council of Hawaii has been working with state aviation officials to revise administrative rules that have led to criminal charges for the storage nonaviation items in hangars at state-owned airports.

AOPA has worked with the General Aviation Council of Hawaii, state pilots, and state officials seeking a more sensible approach. Legislation supported by AOPA that would have decriminalized hangar rules violations has stalled in the state legislature.

Now, the General Aviation Council of Hawaii is seeking input from pilots and aircraft owners on what changes they would like to see made to the existing rules, and is accepting comments via email through April 21. Comments provided should be as succinct as possible, and clearly identify the specific rules where revision is sought.

AOPA supports this kind of collaborative approach, and will continue to work with the General Aviation Council of Hawaii and other members of the general aviation community, and state officials, to find sensible solutions.
