Whelen upgrades LED lighting

Whelen Parmetheus PlusWhelen Engineering, the leading manufacturer of lighting products for general aviation aircraft, has introduced its Parmetheus Plus landing and taxi LEDs.

By adding LEDs and improving optics, Whelen claims the new lights are 40-percent brighter than previous Parmetheus cluster LED.

The lights are drop-in replacements for existing PAR36- and PAR46-size lights, and like all LEDs, feature long life and low power draw. As of now, the bulbs are approved via a supplemental type certificate available for download on the company’s website.

It expects a blanket parts manufacturer approval within the coming months. Street price for the new bulbs is around $240 for the PAR36 size and $309 for the PAR46 series. The Oshkosh show price is $225 and $275 for PAR36 and PAR46, respectively.
