Aviation organizations are investing in the future of the industry by offering education and flight training scholarships to deserving recipients. Each month, AOPA covers new scholarships that are open to applicants and highlights success stories of past scholarship winners. Women in Aviation, International is now taking applications for 80 scholarships valued at more than $450,000. Some of the scholarships available include the AOPA Student Pilot Scholarship, the Yukiko Howell Memorial S.T.E.M. Scholarship, the Dare to Dream Scholarship, and the Keep Flying Scholarship 2015. Applicants must be WAI members by Nov. 1, and the deadline to apply is Nov. 17.
Applications are now open for the Harrison Ford Scholarship, which helps young people achieve their dreams of flight with financial awards supporting EAA Air Academy, flight training, and academic tuition. The scholarship is endowed by Angela and Jim Thompson. The deadline to apply is Dec. 31.
Helicopter Foundation International (HFI) has opened applications for helicopter pilot and maintenance scholarships. Up to eight Bill Sanderson Aviation Maintenance Technician Scholarships at $1,600 each will be awarded to those choosing a career in helicopter maintenance. The deadline to apply is Nov. 30. The Michelle North Scholarship for Safety was created to help those working in the helicopter industry, either in the safety or safety management field or preparing to enter these fields. The deadline to apply is Nov. 30.
HFI also is sponsoring four $5,000 Commercial Helicopter Pilot Scholarships as part of an effort to fill the helicopter industry’s need for qualified pilots and attract new talent. The deadline to apply is Sept. 1. The foundation is also sponsoring up to six $2,500 Maintenance Technician Certificate Scholarships for those interested in pursuing a career as a qualified helicopter maintenance technician. The deadline to apply is Sept. 1.
The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) and Signature Flight Support have opened applications for the $2,500 Eddie Queen Business Aviation Management Scholarship to benefit undergraduates pursuing careers in business aviation management. The deadline to apply is Aug. 22.
The NBAA International Operators Committee is offering up to $5,000 for the International Operators Scholarship to benefit business aviation professionals engaged in international operations. The deadline to apply is Nov. 26, and the winners will be announced at the 2015 NBAA International Operators Conference.
Zonta International is now taking applications for its $10,000 Amelia Earhart Fellowship. The fellowship program helps talented women pursuing advanced studies in the typically male-dominated fields of aerospace-related sciences and aerospace-related engineering achieve their educational goals. The deadline to apply is Nov. 15.
