Beringer Wheels and Brakes announced the availability of several types of aircraft wheels on July 29 at EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and said a new anti-groundloop tailwheel design is forthcoming.
A new 4-inch main wheel and brake assembly is available for single-seat and microlight aircraft up to 800 pounds. The tubeless wheel weighs 39 ounces, has sealed ball bearings, and is anodized to protect against corrosion.
Also available is a new 8-inch wheel for single-engine aircraft up to 6,000 pounds. An innovative spoke design delivers a high energy rating and low maintenance cost, a Beringer representative said.
Finally, a new 6-inch wheel is offered for STOL light sport aircraft. The wheel features a welded 1.5-inch axle, and there is a dual brake option for bush tires.
Beringer continues to develop an anti-groundloop tailwheel design for conventional gear aircraft. Initially presented at EAA AirVenture 2013, the anti-groundloop design has since been refined to include a double pivot mechanism that will allow the pilot to lock the wheel for takeoffs and landings, yet still maneuver the aircraft around turns on the ground. It will weigh 3.7 pounds, not including the wheel. The device will be available in 2015, a Beringer representative said.
