L-3 plans to offer ADS-B product line

L-3 is entering the ADS-B general aviation market.L-3 Aviation Products plans to join the general aviation ADS-B world with its Lynx MultiLink Surveillance System. The avionics manufacturer has long produced ADS-B products for air transport customers and recently certified its new NXT-series of ADS-B Out transponders.

At an EAA AirVenture press conference, Larry Riddle, L-3 vice president of marketing and sales, said the company will release the products by the end of the year.

“Our goal is to eliminate the guesswork and complexity inherent in ADS-B systems and introduce a one-box solution that meets the FAA ADS-B mandate, while going beyond what any other company is currently doing for NextGen flight.” The new products will be “specifically tailored to fit the panel and budget of today’s general aviation aircraft and pilots,” Riddle added.

The company plans to release details of the products in the next few weeks. Riddle indicated the Lynx products would take advantage of existing panel displays, wiring, and antennas already installed in airplanes whenever possible. Some installations may sell for as little as $2,000, he said. Details will be made public on a dedicated website, L-3Lynx.com. An upcoming L-3 app will allow customers to “test drive” product options from a tablet computer.
