Question of the week: IFR contact approach

Question: When operating IFR, a contact approach may be an option if certain conditions are met. However, in all your years of flying you don’t recall ATC ever offering a contact approach to you as an option. Why not?

Answer: A contact approach must be specifically requested by the pilot. See the other requirements for a contact approach at Aeronautical Information Manual 5-4-25 and brush up on your ATC terminology with this Air Safety Institute safety quiz.
