A sport pilot is living the dream

Name: Dan Maly
Age: 73
Event: Sport pilot checkride
Where: Lorain County Regional Airport (LPR), Elyria, Ohio
Airplane: Flight Design CTLS

Every month I read about these youngsters in their sixties finally living their dreams. Congratulations to them. In June 2012, at age 71, I took my introductory flight. Two years later, almost to the day, at age 73 I earned my sport pilot certificate. Thanks to Flight Training magazine, two great instructors—Larry Coleman and Jon Storr at Zone Aviation—and countless mentors along the way, I am now living my dream. So, all you youngsters in your sixties, go for it!

Once sidetracked, now a pilot

He didn’t give up

Success StoriesName: Bryan Lynch
Age: 42
Event: Private pilot checkride
Where: Eagle County Regional (EGE), Eagle, Colorado
Airplane: Diamond DA20

I began taking a few flight lessons in Xenia, Ohio, 10 years ago, but I got sidetracked with other things and stopped. However, the dream of becoming a private pilot never left me. I started taking lessons again just more than a year ago, and I passed my checkride on November 22, 2014. Thank you to CFIs Loren French, Emily Gros, and all the great instructors at Alpine Flight Training. Also, thank you to examiner F. Lynn French for a positive and thorough checkride experience. If becoming a pilot remains a dream of yours, don’t give up!
