AOPA works for members at the state and local level across the United States. Catch up on what the association has done for you recently in the Great Lakes region.
Opportunities to meet with state lawmakers at various aviation day events have been keeping AOPA busy in the Great Lakes Region. AOPA Director of State Advocacy Jared Esselman recently took part in Minnesota Aviation Day at the Statehouse in Minneapolis while Great Lakes Regional Manager Bryan Budds participated in the Michigan Aviation Day at the Statehouse, which AOPA sponsored in conjunction with the Michigan Business Aviation Association and Michigan Association of Airport Executives. Also in Michigan, Budds testified in support of Michigan House Bill 4537 which would prevent an employer from discriminating against members of the Civil Air Patrol when the member must miss work to respond to a declared emergency situation. Budds also attended the initial meeting of the revitalized Michigan Legislative Aviation Caucus aimed at promoting general aviation issues in the state legislature. In North Dakota, AOPA took part in the Upper Midwest Aviation Symposium where Budds met with Airport Support Network volunteers from across the state, bringing them an update on AOPA’s efforts to promote GA airports and keep flying affordable.
