AOPA Black History Month event featuring a Tuskegee Airman

FREDERICK, MD – The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) will host an event to honor Black History Month at the National Aviation Community Center (NACC) which will feature Col. Charles E. McGee, a Tuskegee Airman, and a screening of the film, The Tuskegee Airmen. McGee went on to fly 409 fighter combat missions over the course of three wars, a record that still stands. 

In a 2014 interview with The Washington Post, Col. McGee said that after his first flight, “I knew I made the right decision. I fell in love with flying.” Col. McGee has been inducted into The National Aviation Hall of Fame.

The event will take place on Saturday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m. Col. McGee will speak to the audience and take questions at 7:15 p.m., and The Tuskegee Airmen will begin at 8:15 p.m. The AOPA NACC is located at 296 Bucheimer Road at Frederick Municipal Airport and the event is free of charge and no registration required.

The NACC was a vacant hangar that AOPA turned into an aviation community center - a welcoming gateway to the local airport where flying is made fun and more accessible. Throughout the year AOPA hosts events open to the public including quarterly leadership lunches, training and safety courses, movie nights, and other events to bring the community together and highlight the positive impact aviation has on communities. The AOPA NACC is open to the surrounding community and can be booked for events throughout the year.
