Michigan aviation safety forum set

A day of seminars on flight safety and aircraft maintenance will take place in Ypsilanti, Michigan, on Jan. 30 with the inaugural Michigan Aviation Safety Forum, an event co-sponsored by AOPA and the FAA Safety Team, at Eastern Michigan University.

Bryan Budds, AOPA’s Great Lakes regional manager, will be in attendance and said he looks forward to meeting pilots, maintenance technicians, and other members of the area’s aviation community. He invited pilots to stop by AOPA’s booth to learn about a special membership offer.

“AOPA is proud to partner with the Michigan Aviation Safety Forum in its inaugural year,” he said.

AOPA was represented on the event’s planning committee, and looks forward to assisting in future years. The event was organized in the absence of the Great Lakes International Aviation Conference from this year’s aviation event calendar. It is expected to return in 2017.

“The hope is that this smaller, less corporate event will encourage more pilots to attend, and will focus on increasing general aviation safety across the area,” Budds said.

The safety forum will be held at the Eastern Michigan University Student Center, 900 Oakwood Street, Ypsilanti, Michigan 48197, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Jan. 30. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m.

The admission charge is $5 at the door, with free admission for those under 15 or over 75 years old.
