Western Pacific region roundup

AOPA works for members at the state and local level across the United States. Catch up on what the association has done for you recently in the Western Pacific region.

Western Pacific Regional Manager Melissa McCaffrey and Director of State Government Affairs Jared Esselman recently took part in Arizona Aviation Day at the state capitol. The two emphasized the economic benefits of general aviation when they met with lawmakers on behalf of AOPA’s 8,000 members in the state. AOPA is continuing to fight an effort to close California’s Santa Monica Municipal Airport, recently filing a new Part 16 complaint with the FAA. The complaint, which was joined by the National Business Aviation Association and numerous airport tenants and businesses, alleges that the city has charged Santa Monica Municipal Airport principal and/or interest on purported loans for which there is no valid documentation, charged rates of interest exceeding those allowed by FAA policy, and even charged interest on loans purportedly made to the airport more than six years before the loan documentation.
