Come for the Southern hospitality

Fly-in season kicks off this year with the AOPA Fly-In in Beaufort, North Carolina. Michael J. Smith Field (MRH) is a gracious GA airport, named for the Beaufort native who was the pilot of the space shuttle Challenger. The field was originally a training site for U.S. Marine Corps Corsairs, one of the reasons its three runways are so long and wide.

With lighthouses dotting the shoreline, boats plying the waterways, and marshes and inlets carving rivulets into the landscape, the view on approach to MRH is unparalleled. And the residents of this coastal town can’t wait to share their slice of paradise with you.

The first group you’ll meet is the welcoming crew of Southern Air, led by owner and general manager Ryan Segrave. From the enticing white rocking chairs on its cozy front porch to the smiling faces of the crew, you’ll know you’re in the South because of Southern Air’s hospitality. Sit and enjoy the view.

Great activities are planned for AOPA’s first fly-in of 2016. Join us Friday for special tours throughout the day and the Barnstormers Party at night. There’s a catered shore dinner and music by a local band on site at the airport.

Saturday dawns bright and early with a pancake breakfast for all served by AOPA staff and local volunteers. There’s a special pancake breakfast for Rusty Pilots who want to get information on how to get back into the air, with presentations and educational information. At 9 a.m. the exhibits and aircraft display are open—free to all. Stroll among dozens of diverse and interesting aircraft on display and shop with the more than 60 exhibitors, including AOPA’s own village of products and services.

Seminars presented by aviation experts and storytellers such as Adrian Eichhorn, Thomas B. Haines, and Tom Horne take place throughout the day. Lunch is served by a local catering company and later there is an ice cream social presented by Heaven's Landing. AOPA President Mark Baker ends the day with his popular Town Hall Meeting, where local pilots and aviation enthusiasts learn the latest general aviation news.

More activities are being added daily, so check the website for more information and make sure you let us know you’re coming—RSVP online.
