Foundation donations help boost GA community

Generous donations to the AOPA Foundation are having a direct impact on boosting the pilot population and improving general aviation safety. With only a few weeks left in the year, now is the time to make your tax-deductible donation to support GA.

“As 2018 comes to a close, I’m proud to share how generous donors to the AOPA Foundation have helped us build a stronger, safer aviation community,” said AOPA President Mark Baker.

AOPA’s You Can Fly program and Air Safety Institute are funded by the AOPA Foundation.

  • This year, more than 2,500 students in more than 100 classrooms across the country are learning about aviation through You Can Fly’s High School curriculum. Schools are training the next generation of pilots while fulfilling their desires for providing science, technology, engineering, and math curriculum.
  • You Can Fly’s Flying Club initiative helped launch 35 flying clubs this year, bringing the total number of new clubs added since the initiative’s launch to 100.
  • More than 1,300 participants in You Can Fly’s Rusty Pilots seminars this year have completed their flight review. Since the initiative’s launch, a total of 6,000 Rusty Pilots have gotten back into flying.
  • The Air Safety Institute’s safety education programs were viewed more than 5 million times in 2018.
  • More than 40,000 pilots are flying under BasicMed and have used AOPA’s popular online medical assessment course to meet part of the requirements of operating under the medical qualification.

“Together we are working to ensure the sky remains within reach of everyone who dreams of flying,” Baker said. “To help us continue this momentum, please make a year-end donation at aopafoundation.org/donate and encourage others to support our efforts.”
