Plane Spotter
AOPA
No tail rotor, no pilot, no problem
With a growing list of missions including military cargo delivery and aerial firefighting, the K-MAX helicopter (designed by Kaman Aerospace of Connecticut) is a heavy lifter with two intermeshing main rotors, no tail rotor, and, sometimes, an empty cockpit. Kaman worked with Lockheed Martin to create an unmanned K-MAX that logged its first remotely piloted military resupply mission in 2011 in Afghanistan. The alert spotter may log a sighting closer to home, such as this firefighting demonstration conducted in 2016 in upstate New York.

Question

I passed my private pilot checkride yesterday and was told that I now need to perform three takeoffs and three landings in order to carry passengers. Is that correct?
Answer
According to 14 CFR 61.57, you must have performed at least three takeoffs and three landings within the last 90 days to carry passengers. Takeoffs and landings performed as a student pilot, and on your flight test, count toward this requirement.

Did you know that student pilots who join AOPA are three times more likely to complete their flight training?
